Goal Summaries

A goal summary is a short, written overview of how a client is progressing toward a specific goal. Metanoa can generate this summary automatically from the goal's review history, saving you from having to write it up manually each time.

What Goes Into a Goal Summary?

The AI looks at all the reviews recorded for a goal, including baseline scores, target scores, actual scores over time, and any notes added during reviews. It pulls this together into a coherent narrative that describes where the client started, where they are now, and the direction they're heading.

How Do I Generate a Goal Summary?

You'll find the Generate Summary button in the Goal Summary section when you open the Edit Goal modal.

Let's Generate a Goal Summary

  1. Go to the client's Goals section in their profile
  2. Click on the goal you want to summarise to open it
  3. Find the Goal Summary section inside the Edit Goal modal
  4. Click "Generate Summary" using the AI button
  5. Review the summary and edit it to add any context the AI wouldn't have known
  6. Save the goal and the summary is stored on the goal record

And you're all set! The summary will show up in the goal detail view going forward.

Summaries Stay Up to Date Automatically

You don't always need to regenerate a summary manually. When a new review is added to a goal or an existing review is deleted, Metanoa automatically updates the goal summary in the background. This means the summary stays current without you having to remember to refresh it.

If you want to regenerate it manually at any point, the Generate Summary button is always there in the Edit Goal modal.

Adding Your Own Context

The AI writes the summary from the numbers and notes in the review history, but you know the client better than any data does. After generating, read through the summary and add anything the data doesn't capture, like how the client feels about their progress, external factors affecting performance, or qualitative observations from sessions.

Common Questions

Does the goal need reviews before I can generate a summary?

The AI works best when there's review data to draw from. A goal with several reviews will produce a much more meaningful summary than a brand new goal with no history. You can still generate on a new goal but the output will be limited to the baseline and target information.

Can I edit the summary after it's generated?

Yes. The summary appears in the Goal Summary section of the Edit Goal modal where you can change anything you like before saving.

Will the auto-update overwrite edits I've made to the summary?

Heads up, yes it can. When a new review is added, the summary is regenerated automatically, which will replace any manual edits. If you've added important context to a summary that you want to keep, bear this in mind when adding new reviews.

Where does the goal summary show up for others to see?

The summary is visible in the goal detail view within the client's profile, so anyone with access to that client's goals can see it.
